Doha: (www.kvartha.com) Cabinet approves draft decision to amend certain provisions regarding health insurance premium for visitors. The action was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan. It is not clear what the new amendments are.
A draft decision of the Minister of Public Health to amend certain provisions of Decision No. 17 of 2022 has been approved. The minister’s draft decision on updating the information and specifications of the health insurance card was also approved.
The Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday also considered the decision to form a National Advisory Committee for Health Insurance Scheme. In October last year, the health insurance premium amount for those arriving on a visit visa was announced to be 50 Riyals per month.
The law requires health insurance to be taken for the length of stay on the visitor visa. Visitors’ insurance covers emergency and accident treatment and basic health services.
In October 2021, Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed the law making health insurance mandatory for expatriate residents and visitors to the country. Initially the insurance is applicable to visitors. Health insurance will soon be made mandatory for all non-residents of the country.
