Brussels: The European Union bans color tattoo inks that cause cancer. Colored inks used in tattoo making and about 4,000 chemicals used to make permanent makeup have been banned. According to the European Chemicals Agency, these chemicals can cause cancer, genetic mutations, allergies and skin diseases.
The European Union (EU) has said it does not intend to ban tattoos, but rather to secure the colors used in tattoos. It is estimated that 12% of the total population in Europe currently has a tattoo. The European Union estimates that this is likely to double in the coming years. Authorities said the new decision was based on public health concerns.
