Health Minister Heike Werner (52, left) assumes that Thuringian patients will soon have to be relocated to other federal states. This is already happening within Thuringia.
The problem: We have significantly fewer intensive care beds available than we did a few months ago. There are currently 650 operable – in May it was 1100! Many nurses have left the wards because they are at the end of their tether, Werner said last week.
Therefore, the situation could become even worse than last winter, says the Gera intensive care doctor Caterina Reuchsel. Some patients would have to travel an hour by ambulance because there were no free beds elsewhere. What bothers them: There are currently 13 corona patients in the Gera Forest Clinic. Only four of them are vaccinated. The doctor: “It is really demoralizing when you know that it can be avoided.”

By Sunday, 169 more than every fourth intensive care bed was occupied by a corona patient – the highest value nationwide. Werner assumes that there will be 300 by the end of November, 80 more than the previous high in April.
After all: At the weekend, more than 7600 people stormed into the vaccination centers – according to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, more than in a long time.
The country wants to take countermeasures in the next few days with the 2G rule (recovered / vaccinated). Means: Unvaccinated people then no longer have access to certain areas. This then applies to visits to restaurants and pubs, swimming pools or accommodation providers. According to Werner, retailers, hairdressers, local transport or educational institutions should be excluded from the rule.
