Health requests the withdrawal of the ‘Nuud’ deodorant after four notifications of serious effects

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), dependent on the Ministry of Health, has requested the cessation of marketing and the voluntary withdrawal of the Nuud cream deodorant after receiving and analyzing four notifications of serious unwanted effects, which consisted of the appearance of painful cysts in the application area.

After the analysis of the cases and the technical information provided by the person responsible for the product (NUUD BV), it is concluded that the unwanted effects observed could be related to the consistency and oily nature of the product, which could favor clogging. of the pores in the area of ​​application of the product (armpits).

This fact, linked to the characteristics of the skin in the application area, which is subject to anatomical occlusion and permanent friction, would increase the risk of cyst formation and microbial infection. However, it points out that, “based on the information available at this time, the qualitative and quantitative composition of the product is in accordance with Regulation 1223/2009 on cosmetic products.”

This decision is made six days after the French Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) reported its decision to withdraw all batches from the market after having received similar notifications in its country.
