Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Ministry of Health warned of the spread of epidemic diarrhea and meningitis among children, especially during the summer season, due to the problems of pollution and dehydration.
The Director of Public Health at the Ministry, Riyad Al-Halfi, said in a statement to the official newspaper that most communicable diseases are active during the summer, so annual plans are prepared and sent to the concerned departments to intensify the visits and campaigns of the health monitoring teams.
He pointed out that the spread of epidemic diarrhea cases in the summer among children is due to the high environmental pollution associated with dry seasons and water and food pollution, as we have recorded a number of infections now, pointing to the intensification of preparations for the provision of medicines and medical supplies in coordination with the health departments.
He added that the ministry also worked to form a joint operations room with the World Health Organization to provide treatments and medical supplies for people with hemorrhagic fever, as well as cooperate with veterinary departments to eliminate the pathogens that transmit the disease and spread field awareness in densely populated popular areas, villages and rural areas to reduce the phenomenon of indiscriminate slaughter.
Al-Halfi called on the concerned authorities to take the utmost alertness, fearing that the number of casualties would increase again due to the approaching Eid al-Adha, and that some would slaughter sheep outside the sanitary areas inside residential neighborhoods.
He added that the symptoms of meningitis, which had recently spread among children in Sulaymaniyah, had not been confirmed, because it needed laboratory analysis, study and research, as measures were taken to limit its spread in cooperation with the World Health Organization, and the meningococcal vaccine was included in the schedule of children’s vaccinations in the hexagonal vaccine, which is A health achievement aimed at protecting society from it, bearing in mind that this disease is endemic in Iraq, and there is a monitoring program through the health departments in Baghdad and the provinces.
