He embarked on a long adventure that, far from being physical torture for him, was an exhibition worthy of the most recent promising prospect that has emerged in this sport. The waste of quality that he had already been showing, but that he needed to materialize in a victory of caliber. And he does it in his first three-week trial. From today he will trade higher in the market, otherwise his value had not risen a few weeks ago.
A well-deserved award, not only for confirming his upward curve and that, indeed, he has a hierarchy on these big stages, also because it rewards his combativeness and generosity in the effort to make a presence in one of these leaks. One of the few that has sought to be proportional with the show that such a test deserves.
And among the generals, what seemed destined for another waste ended up being Evenepoel’s first show of weakness.
Taking advantage of BORA’s work on the final wall, Roglic jumped on the attack followed by Leknessund. The novelty was that the Belgian did not respond from the start and, on the contrary, he gave up a few meters in front of his greatest rival.
The rainbow tried not to panic and through a regular step, close the gap on the Slovenian. However, in that pulse Primoz was superior and did not let himself be caught, crowning the port with ten seconds in his favor, which indicated that he would discount something prior to the time trial.
He had the company of the two INEOS assets, both Thomas and Geoghegan Hart, who took advantage of the need for Jumbo and stuck to his wheel to also culminate with a balance in favor that was 14″. It will sound little, but every second is appreciated. And moreover, it confirms how unforgivable it was that they didn’t try it yesterday.
Tomorrow, a fundamental day in the fight for the pink, as the long-awaited individual time trial of 35 kilometers between Savignano sul Rubicone and Cesen, where Remco Evenepoel should deal a heavy blow to the rest of the competition and settle at will in the general.
