Yes, a recent study conducted by researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden has reported that loss of the ‘Y’ chromosome is a major cause of heart disease in men. A human cell has 23 pairs of chromosomes. It determines whether a person is male or female. A female has two X chromosomes (XX). A male has one X and one Y (XY). Hence, ‘Y’ chromosome is known as male chromosome.

Thus, in older men, when the ‘Y’ chromosome decreases, fibrosis develops in the heart. This weakens the heart. This study found that heart diseases occur as a result. Similarly, mLOY accounts for the majority of deaths in men due to heart disease.
