Heartbreak at the Olympics: Luana Alonso Eliminated and Expelled from Team Paraguay

by time news

Luana Alonso arrived at the 2024 Olympic Games with high expectations but did not reach the medal contention.

The beautiful swimmer made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 at just 17 years old and arrived in Paris with the intention of excelling in the 100-meter butterfly event, in which she was eliminated in her first attempt after finishing sixth.

She herself announced her retirement at the end of her participation: “Swimming: thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline, and many more things. I gave you part of my life, and I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world because I experienced the best times of my life, you gave me thousands of joys, friends from other countries that I will always carry in my heart, unique opportunities. This is not a goodbye; it’s a see you soon,” she said on her social media.

They don’t want her anymore

Now the swimmer is back in the news, but not precisely for her victories. Her country has decided to expel her from the Olympic Village.

The head of mission of the COP, Larissa Schaerer, explained the reason for the decision: “Her presence is creating an inappropriate environment within Team Paraguay. We appreciate that she proceeds according to what is indicated, as it has been of her own accord that she has not stayed overnight in the Athletes’ Village.”
