The Qatari athlete, a prominent figure in the sport, was unable to complete the jump due to pain and immediately collapsed to receive assistance. At that moment, the Italian, who had shared the gold medal with him in one of the most memorable moments of Tokyo 2020, swiftly visited him to inquire about his condition.
Despite the discomfort, Barshim managed to jump again and cleared 2.27 meters. Tamberi, who had faced serious health issues just days before, jumped 2.24 meters and also qualified for the final of the event, which will take place this Saturday.

Gianmarco Tamberi was on the verge of missing the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: he delayed his flight to the French capital because he was urgently hospitalized. “I felt a sharp pain on my side. Emergency, CT scan, ultrasound, blood tests. Likely kidney stone,” he explained in a post on his Instagram account. Ultimately, he recovered and was able to attend the Olympic event. “I will fight with myself for everything, of course, the work done up until three days ago cannot just vanish,” he stated.
