As the heat wave continued during the Chuseok holiday, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) prepared a temporary measure.
On the 17th, the day of Chuseok, as professional baseball games were held at five stadiums across the country, the KBO announced, “Due to the heat wave across the country that day, we decided to have a 10-minute break for cleaning time to ensure sufficient rest time for spectators and players.”
Starting in September, KBO games on Sundays and public holidays start at 2 p.m. In July and August, which are classified as the hottest months, games start at 6 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays, but after September, when the weather gets cooler, the game start time is moved up to 2 p.m.
But this year, the heat continued into September, causing headaches.
At the Lotte Giants-Hanwha Eagles game held at Sajik Stadium in Busan on the 14th, about 20 patients with heat-related illnesses were reported. It was also reported that about 50 people complained of heat-related illnesses at the KIA Tigers-Kiwoom Heroes game in Gwangju on the 15th.
Samsung Lions’ Won Tae-in, who was the starting pitcher for the game against SSG Landers held at Incheon SSG Landers Field on the 15th, also suffered from dehydration during the game.
On the 17th, when the daytime temperature across the country exceeded 30 degrees, the KBO came up with a temporary measure of a 10-minute break.
However, the match between KT Wiz and Kiwoom Heroes held at Gocheok Sky Dome on this day will be played without a 10-minute break for cleaning time.
