Between today and Thursday, 9 capitals could record temperature records for the year.

This Monday, Brasília (35ºC) and Palmas (40ºC). On Tuesday, Cuiabá (43ºC), Campo Grande (39ºC) and Goiânia (39ºC). On Wednesday, Belo Horizonte (38ºC), Vitória (37ºC) and São Luís (34ºC). On Thursday, Aracaju (32ºC).

In the South, temperatures drop sharply from today onwards, especially in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Due to the formation of a tropical cyclone that will hit the coast between Monday and Tuesday, the region is expected to experience storms and gales.

From Wednesday to Thursday, temperatures are expected to plummet in São Paulo and Rio. In the capital of São Paulo, highs remain above 30ºC at the beginning of the week and can reach 35ºC on Wednesday, but fall to 20ºC on Thursday. In Rio, the maximum temperatures should decrease from 37ºC on Wednesday to 25ºC on Thursday.

According to Inmet, what causes the heat wave is an atmospheric blockage, which harms the formation of rain and facilitates the increase in temperature.. This blockage, a kind of “heat bubble”, is expected to dissolve by Wednesday, leading to a drop in temperature.

The heat wave forms with dry weather, with increased sunshine, which favors a high pressure system. This not only inhibits the development of clouds, but also increases the temperature of the air masses, which causes the highs we are seeing
