Heat wave: with 35.8 ° C recorded, an absolute heat record beaten in Brest, others should follow this Monday

by time news

Temperature records begin to fall due to the heat wave. The 40°C were exceeded this weekend, already causing the fall of certain references. The phenomenon is accentuated this Monday, announced as the hottest day in history. As proof, at 1 p.m., we recorded in Brest 35.8 ° C, against 35.2 ° C recorded in 1949, unheard of!

This record was recorded at the meteorological station of Brest-Guipavas, in Finistère, specifies Météo France on its Twitter account. This department, like 14 others in France, is placed on heatwave red alert.

This is only the beginning, since the peak of the heat wave should extend depending on the region between Monday and Tuesday. And the whole country will be affected at some point.

The West and the South-West particularly exposed

The southwest and west of France are particularly exposed. Monday, the national thermal indicator, that is to say the average temperature recorded in thirty official meteorological stations distributed strategically on the territory, could be higher than the hottest days of the heat waves of 2003 and 2019. Maximum temperatures will be above 30°C everywhere, and between 38 and 40°C in half of France, from the west to the Rhône valley.

Records are particularly expected in the Landes, where “the Landes forest will be above 42°C”, according to forecaster Olivier Proust.
