Heatwave Gives Way to Stormy Weather: Central-Southern Italy Braces for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

by time news

The second Sunday of September proceeds with scorching heat and clear skies, but with the start of the next week, a new Atlantic disturbance is expected to arrive, moving through on Monday the 9th, bringing widespread rains and thunderstorms to all regions of central-southern Italy. Sicily will also be involved, with instability starting from the western sectors during the early hours of the morning, progressively extending eastward. This is what is predicted by Francesco Costa, a meteorologist from 3bmeteo.com.

The entire island will therefore experience an increase in cloud cover, associated with rain and showers, which are expected to take on a thunderstorm character with greater probability in the Trapanese, Palermitano, and western Agrigentino areas; the eastern sectors of Catanese, Siracusano, and Messinese will be less significantly affected by the rain, with moderate rainfall expected.

Temperatures will see a slight decrease, aligning with the typical climatic averages for the period. In the following days, the weather will improve over most of the island, although the Tyrrhenian sectors will occasionally experience the formation of intermittent showers, favored by north-western winds. Numerical models outline a new unstable phase between September 12 and 13, with the possible deepening of a depression circulation over the central Mediterranean, which would lead to widespread rains across all southern regions, alongside a sharp drop in temperatures.
