Heavy defeat in the World Cup; Spain coach resigned after four years as coach
Spain coach Luis Enrique has resigned as Spain coach after losing the penalty shootout against Morocco in the pre-quarter match of the FIFA World Cup football.
Instead, Spain’s Under-21 player Luis de la Fuente will take over as coach of the senior team.
In 2018, Enrique became the coach of the Spain men’s senior team. Enrique had a contract as Spain coach until the end of this year.
With Spain’s defeat against Morocco, Enrique was heavily criticized.
Enrique, who coached Spain’s junior team for nine years and the senior team for four years, stepped down after the Spanish Football Association released a statement thanking him.
“The Spanish Football Association would like to thank Luis Enrique and his entire team. “We have sent a report to the Spanish Football President to discuss new projects for the Spanish team,” the Spanish Football Association said.
With a silver medal for the Spanish team at the 2021 Olympics, the Spanish team under Luis Enrique was aiming for more major titles.
Enrique was appointed by the Spanish Football Association as the coach of the Spain national team after performing well for Barcelona from 2014 to 2017.
The style of play developed by Spain’s Enrique Tikitaka was heavily criticized at the World Cup. The most important of the criticisms raised against Enrique is that Spain implements the excess of passes that do not see the target.
