Kyiv: Mayor Mariupol says there is heavy fighting at a steel plant in the southeastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol. In an exclusive interview with the news channel, Mayor Vadim Boychenko said that about 30 civilians were among the many civilians waiting to escape from the plant.

At the same time, the Kremlin dismissed reports that Russia would declare war on Ukraine on May 9, commemorating the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II. A Kremlin spokesman said there was no formal declaration of war on May 9. Russia’s occupation of Ukraine so far has been described as a special military operation.
