In Sri Lanka, which is stuck in economic crisis, the government has drastically increased the electricity tariff. 75 per cent per unit has been raised. With this, a family using 30 units of electricity per month will have to pay Rs 198 more.

The price hike is effective from today (Wednesday). The Sri Lanka Electricity Board Regulatory Authority has approved this tariff hike. The hike in electricity tariff has now put an additional burden on the people who are already suffering from fuel scarcity, scarcity of essential commodities and skyrocketing prices.
