Kochi: In view of the possibility of continued heavy rains, the District Collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Ernakulam district on Wednesday (31/08/2022). Holiday applies to Kendriya Vidyalayas and Anganwadis. Heavy rain is continuing in Ernakulam district. There is severe waterlogging in the main city of Kochi. IMD Senior Scientist RK Janamani said that heavy rain is likely to occur in five districts in the next 24 hours as rain continues in many districts of the state. Rain is likely in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta districts. Orange alert has been issued in these districts. 100 mm to 200 mm of rain is expected.

Very heavy rain is also likely at some places in one or two districts. Nowhere has received more than 200 mm of rain. In some places, there is a sudden large flood. There may be other reasons for it. Rain falls in a fixed amount. He said that the IMD was giving proper warnings and was not aware that along with the color code, Kerala was also seeking help from foreign companies. He also replied to the allegation of ignoring the warning of the Meteorological Department.
