The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in eight districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram today.

The low pressure area prevailing in the southeastern and southwestern Bay of Bengal is moving in a westerly direction. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in Tamil Nadu for four days as it is likely to move towards the southern Andhra-northern Tamil Nadu coast on the 18th.

Today, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin districts and a few places in Puthuvai will receive heavy to very heavy rain with thundershowers. Thundershowers will develop at a few places in Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thiruvannamalai, Salem, Delta districts and parts of Karaikal.

Tomorrow (18.11.2021), Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipettai districts will experience heavy to very heavy rain with thundershowers and heavy showers in one or two places. The Met Office has forecast thundershowers at Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi and Pondicherry.

The next day (19.11.2021), Krishnagiri, Tirupati and Vellore districts will experience heavy to very heavy rain with thundershowers at one or two places and Salem, Dharmapuri, Erode, Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts with thundershowers at other places and other districts and Pondicherry, Karaikal. Light to moderate showers are forecast in most parts of the state.

On Saturday (20.11.2021), Tiruvallur, Ranipettai, Vellore, Kanyakumari and Delta districts, one or two places in Karaikal will receive thundershowers, while other districts and Pondicherry will receive light to moderate rain in many places on Sunday (21.11.2021). The Met Office has forecast light to moderate showers in many parts of Pondicherry and Karaikal.

For Chennai, a few places in the city will receive light to heavy showers with a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius for the next 24 hours. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued for the next 48 hours.

On the 17th and 18th, hurricane force winds of 40 to 50 kmph and intermittent 60 kmph are expected along the central, western, southwestern Bay of Bengal, southern Andhra and northern Tamil Nadu. Fishermen have been warned not to go to these areas for three days as it can reach speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and intermittent 60 kmph.
