Muscat: The Ministry of Education has announced that classes in some schools in the governorate of Muscat will be suspended until Wednesday, January 5, following heavy rains.

1) Turaya Bint Muhammad Al Busaidia Girls School (Grade 5-9)
2) Al Tawfeeq School (Grades 1-4)
3) Faid Al Marifa Basic Education School for Girls (Grades 5-10)
4) Al Aula A School (Grade 1-4).

Thirty-five people have been rescued by civil defense and ambulance teams in the governorate of Muscat after being trapped in floodwaters in the Al Gubra area of ​​Boucher district. The health condition of the survivors is satisfactory, the Civil Defense said in a statement.

Plaintiffs were inundated by floodwaters caused by rain. Traffic was disrupted at various places due to floods on the roads. The low-lying areas were submerged in heavy rains and strong winds. Heavy rains lashed various parts of the governorate, including Musandam, south-north Batina, Muscat, Buraimi, Dahira, Dakhilia and south-north Sharqia. The Oman Civil Defense Committee and the Royal Oman Police have called on the people in the northern governorate of the country to be vigilant.

The Oman Meteorological Agency said the low would continue until Wednesday, January 5. Authorities said the rain, which is gradually reaching the northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, will continue until noon today. At the same time, the indirect effects of this weather will continue until tomorrow. On Wednesday, it is expected to rain in the eastern and western parts of the Hajar Mountains. There is a possibility of heavy rain with strong winds in the coming hours.
