The new depression is expected to form near the southern Andamans on the 29th, with heavy rainfall forecast for the next 5 days in Tamil Nadu due to wind gusts.
Further Meteorological Center Heavy rains are expected in Naga, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Nellai districts today. Delta districts of Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Nagaon and Mayiladuthurai will receive heavy rainfall. Kanyakumari, Nellai and Tenkasi districts are also likely to receive heavy rains tomorrow.
Following the heavy rain warning, schools in Nellai and Thoothukudi districts have been closed. Due to heavy rains in these two districts and most parts of the state today, all the schools that are running today have been declared closed from this afternoon.
