Due to the heavy rains in many districts of Tamil Nadu, the District Collectors have ordered a school holiday as a precautionary measure.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal due to the low atmospheric circulation prevailing over the Kumari Kadal region, the Meteorological Department said.
Also heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Nilgiri, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts, Erode, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Salem, Dharmapuri, It is also reported that there is a possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in Krishnagiri, Tirupattur districts and Karaikal.
In this case, the District Collector has ordered holidays for schools in Madurai, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Tirupur and Nilgiris only in 4 taluks (Utkai, Coonoor, Kotagiri, Kunta). It is also reported that other districts with heavy rains are likely to be given holidays.
