With a particularly fat budget, an impressive cast of actors, and a successful and well-publicized director duo, “Netflix” is undoubtedly not ready to give up
The spy thriller “The Gray Man” starring the actor Ryan Gosling and directed by the duo Joe and Anthony Russo is based on a book of the same name by the author Mark Greaney. The plot follows a man who was serving a prison sentence following a murder, which it turns out, he committed with terrifying calmness and composure. The reason for his early release from prison? The Secret Service recruits him for a secret mission.
Adam joins a group of tough and skilled exterminators, but pretty quickly he discovers things he doesn’t really need to know about the organization and various elements within it. Already in the first stages of joining, Adam manages to get his hands on a USB flash drive with sensitive material, which several senior officials from the organization try to take back.
As you can understand, this is actually how the action of “The Gray Man” begins, when a rather serious bully is sent in the direction of a person who tries to get rid of him once and for all. The organization identifies Adam’s weak point: a girl he took under his wing due to a complex health condition, and they threaten her and blackmail him.
Despite the action, the effects, the fat budget, the beating heart of this film is undoubtedly the relationship between Adam and this girl. Between the two there is a touching dynamic, one that can only exist between two slightly flawed people. And in order to make this kind of relationship accessible, you don’t necessarily need a budget of 200 million dollars.
In conclusion, “The Gray Man” fails to be a breathtaking espionage thriller, despite the huge financial investment, it fails to leave a mark, and yet, it is entertaining to watch, at times it even manages to move something in the heart, and yet, who does not want to see a film in production of 200 million dollars?
