A country in Europe has announced a closure for unvaccinated residents

Following the spike in morbidity, while this is a country with a percentage of the lowest vaccinated on the continent, the government fears that hospitals will not be able to contain the load and therefore announced the move

The Austrian government has stepped up a fight in Corona, announcing on Sunday that starting at midnight that day – people who have not been vaccinated against the virus will be forced to be under closure.

The move by the parliament in Vienna actually prohibits those aged 12 and over who have not been vaccinated from leaving their homes, except for basic activities like work, grocery shopping, going for a walk. “Our job, as the Austrian government, is to protect people,” Chancellor Alexander Schlenberg said on Sunday. “Therefore, it was decided that as of Monday, a closure would apply to the non-warehouses.”

Initially, the quarantine will last 10 days, and the police will patrol to check that anyone who is outside is vaccinated or meets the restrictions of the new order. The Chancellor of the State added that additional police forces had been allocated for this. Unvaccinated people, who are caught violating the new guidelines, could be fined up to 1,450 euros, or $ 1,660.

The decision came in the wake of authorities’ concerns about the spike in morbidity and mortality, which they say will soon mean hospital staff will not be able to cope with the growing number of corona patients.

Chancellor Schlenberg noted that while the rate of infection over the past seven days among vaccinated people is declining, the rate is rising rapidly in those who have not received the injections.

The move will affect about 2 million people in the country, which numbers 8.9 million, the APA news agency reported. As mentioned, the closure does not apply to children under the age of 12 because they are not yet able to be officially vaccinated.

Austria is one of the countries in Europe with the lowest vaccination rate on the continent. Only 65 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.

Authorities reported 11,552 new cases on Sunday, and a week ago there were 8,554 new verified cases. The death toll on Sunday was 17, with a total of 11,706 people dying since the onset of the plague. The infection rate stands at 775.5 new cases per 100,000 residents. For comparison, in neighboring Germany the number stands at 289.
