A Ukrainian man has sunk a yacht worth more than $ 7 million – because of his Russian boss

He worked for a decade as a technician in the vessels of the CEO of a Russian military arms company, but when he saw the pictures of the violent invasion – he decided to take personal revenge

A Ukrainian man has been arrested on the grounds that he partially sank the luxury yacht of his Russian tycoon boss in Spain, in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

‘Lady Anastasia’

Taras Ustchuk, 55, was arrested on Saturday on the island of Mallorca after he allegedly opened a number of valves on purpose to flood the 50-meter-long vessel.

The yacht, named ‘Lady Anastasia’, belongs to the business island of Alexander Mijiev, who is the CEO of the Russian military arms company – Rosoboronexport.

When police forces arrived to arrest Ostchuk, the latter told them: “My boss is a criminal, who sells weapons that kill the Ukrainian people.” He said he decided to sabotage the luxury vessel after seeing news reports of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“I was watching the news about the war. There was a video of a helicopter attack on a building in Kiev. The ammunition in the helicopters is made by the yacht owner’s company. They attacked innocent people.” The 55-year-old said in court, adding that he does not regret his actions, and that he will “do it again”.

According to local media reports, the yacht suffered severe damage to its engine compartment.

Ustchuk, who worked on the yacht as a mechanic for about a decade, was later released from custody – and has since left Spain. According to him, he intends to return to his homeland Ukraine to help in the fighting.

“I’m going to fight,” he said. “As soon as I get to the first Ukrainian city, I will look for a military commander and ask him if they need me.”

“I said to myself, ‘Why do I need a job, if I have my own country,'” he told local media. “I had a good job as a chief mechanic on a boat, and a good salary, but I’m going to fight for my nation. I’m not going to lose my country. I’m not a hero, I’m a middle-aged man, but I have a lot of experience as a mechanic. But if necessary, I will do this. “
