“Fault that increases the risk of an accident”: a recall of half a million Tesla vehicles

Tesla explained that two different problems caused the recall of about 475 “Model 3” and “Model S” cars. These are about 350,000 “3” models and 120,000 “S” models from 2017 to 2020

Tesla has announced the recall of some 475,000 electric cars of the 3 and S models, against the background of two different faults that increase the risk of a car accident.

According to the Federal Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), a recall of 356,309 “Model 3” vehicles was announced from 2017 to 2020, and 119,009 “Model S” vehicles.

For Model 3 vehicles, the recall is necessary in light of a problem with the rear camera of the electric car: “A cable leading to the rear camera may be damaged as a result of opening and closing the electric trunk,” the NHTSA said.

In contrast, the recall of “Model X” vehicles is due to a malfunction in the hood: “The hood may be opened at any time,” the recall notice said.
