“Walking Dead Women” is an American film created by Hagar Ben Asher, and consists of nine episodes that all deal with women who are doomed to be executed and, in fact, in their final moments in this world. In the first story we follow Donna, just 14 days before she is executed. Donna is accompanied by her little son and mother.
Pretty soon we find out that Donna actually murdered her husband and his parents. So are the following stories, although they are similar to each other, but each of them reveals a different world, different characters, and a different language. In the end, everyone exposes the viewers to the vulnerability and complexity that exists in these inconceivable moments before death. The film manages to provide a shaky viewing experience, difficult to watch at times, and mostly exciting. Exciting to tears.
All the women come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, from difficult and complex lives, broken families, and the like. In this way all the stories are quite complementary, creating a single, complete picture that reflects a difficult and complex reality. Among all the difficulty “walking dead women” ultimately also provides moments of compassion and comfort.
The actors and actresses present an impressive, authentic and admirable acting, from the first minutes of the film to the end. Hagar Ben Asher is a successful Israeli filmmaker, who has written and directed several successful films in Israel, including “The Breakthrough.” Ben Asher’s musical choices are also impressive and turn “Walking Dead Women” into a complete and sweeping cinematic work.
