Four years after the great success of “Murder Mystery”, the star duo returns with the long-awaited sequel. The result is a fun evening in front of the Netflix screen
The movie “Murder Mystery”, which appeared on Netflix four years ago, was a resounding success. As you remember, the plot followed Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston who play a New York couple – Nick and Audrey. He works for the New York Police Department, and she works at a hair salon. The two are going on a trip outside the country for the first time in their lives, in honor of 15 years of marriage.
During the journey, Nick lied and said he was a detective, while he was a “regular” cop. The opportunity to turn the lie into reality comes when the two connect with a billionaire, who invites them to his yacht. They meet various guests on board, when one of them finds his death under mysterious circumstances. The innocent couple becomes a suspect in the murder, and in order to prove his innocence, he needs to find the real culprit.
James Vanderblit’s script was simply great, and of course the presence of Sandler and Aniston contributed to the international success. Therefore, it was clear that a sequel would come, and here it is – “Murder Mystery 2” which appeared on Netflix worldwide, and immediately took first place in the viewing charts.Nick and Audrey are in a completely different place at the beginning of the film – they have founded their own agency, but it is not very successful. But a chance for redemption comes thanks to Maharaja, with whom they teamed up in the previous film. He invites them to his wedding, where he is about to marry the choice of his heart – a working-class French woman. This time too the festive event turns into the day of the disruption, and the mystery from last time repeats itself: again a body is found and once again everyone is a suspect – including the New York couple.
As mentioned, the plot is reminiscent of the previous film, but the turn of events this time leads the heroes to a journey in Paris, including its most iconic sites. The film manages to deliver the goods and every time the plot slides into far-fetched places, the script inserts an absurd pause, which reminds us that “Murder Mystery 2” does not take itself seriously, and it is desirable that the viewers do not either.
The French heroine in the film is played by Melanie Lauren, who is known to the audience mainly from her role as Susanna in “Bastards without honor”, known as one of the best actresses in France, and is a particularly fine addition. The new film is a fun evening in front of the small screen, and as mentioned, a great escapism, even if it is for one evening. It seems now, all that’s left to do is wait for the sequel.
