Just before the flight to Miami: A passenger burst into the cockpit and tried to jump out of the window

The bizarre incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday afternoon in Honduras, during the boarding for American Airlines Flight 488 to South Florida. The rioting passenger was arrested, but not before causing damage to the plane and causing it to shut down

An unusual incident was recorded yesterday (Tuesday) on an American Airlines flight that was about to take off from Honduras to Florida, after one of the passengers broke into the cockpit, hit the plane’s systems and even tried to jump out of the window.

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday at San Pedro Sola International Airport. American Airlines Flight 488, which was scheduled to take off for Miami at 3:00 p.m., was in the midst of the boarding process when the passenger began to rage.

The passenger reportedly ran towards the boarding bridge and got into the cockpit. The passenger, whose name was not released, hit the plane’s systems and opened the window – apparently with the aim of jumping out. The pilots fought him, but he was arrested only after law enforcement boarded the plane.

American Airlines declined to give many details about the incident, other than to say they “salute the crew of the plane who acted professionally throughout the difficult incident.”

It is also unclear what damage was done to the plane following the incident, but American Airlines explained that the 121 passengers and six crew members were unloaded from the aircraft and transferred to a replacement plane. The flight took off at 10:45 at night – about eight hours after the scheduled time – and landed in Miami a few minutes before 2:00 at night (Tuesday-Wednesday).
