Michael Serra on international success: “I don’t have a strong enough character”

The actor and star of the movie “The Social Network”, in which he played Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, opens up all the cards and explains why it’s hard for him to deal with fame, and what it’s like to work with different directors throughout his career

It seems to be a particularly successful time for the 34-year-old actor Michael Cera – he is on the cusp of a comeback after his career path went quite awry. At the last Berlin festival, held a few weeks ago, he starred in the film The Adults, which participated in one of the side frames. Next month he will begin filming the second season of Life & Beth, the comedy series created and directed by Jewish comedian Amy Schumer, for the Hulu streaming service.

In the series, the actor plays a farmer who bursts into the life of a wine saleswoman (played by Schumer), who returned to Long Island to attend the funeral of her mother, who died unexpectedly. “It’s fun to be Amy Schumer’s partner,” says Sera. “She is a lovely woman and the series is an excellent collaborative project. I hope that this year we can see the second season,” he explains.

In addition, in July, the movie “Barbie” will hit theaters around the world, directed by Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”) about the exploits of the plastic doll Barbie and her partner Ken. Cera didn’t exactly have the physical chops to play Ken, so Ryan Gosling was cast in the role. “The buzz around the film is crazy,” he reveals for the first time.

The star also told what it’s like to work with different directors throughout his career. “I think that every director is a different experience based on his character and how he approaches work, I don’t think gender has that much weight. I learn a lot from observing each director.’

Finally, Michael concluded and referred to international fame and success and explained that it was a challenge for him: “I’m quite a sensitive person. It’s hard for me to deal with people approaching me all the time. I’m not built for that level of interaction. I don’t have a strong enough character.”
