Neil Gaiman on the movie Sandman: “It was the worst script I’ve ever read”

The production of the streaming giant Netflix “Sandman”, based on the comic by Neil Gaiman, recently aired and is already managing to rake in hundreds of thousands of viewers from around the world. In a new interview, Gaiman reveals for the first time that the film adaptation they tried to create a year ago was a disaster, and he found a particularly original way to stop it

“Sandman”, which recently appeared on Netflix, presents the television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic, and it is certainly successful and extremely popular. But it turns out that quite a few creators tried to give different adaptations to Gaiman’s story, one of which was a real disaster, according to Gaiman. “I was not happy with the intentions that tried to take the story. It was terrible and terrible. The worst script I’ve ever read,” he said for the first time.

Gaiman also revealed that in order to sabotage the progress of the failed film adaptation, he decided to leak the script and sent it to a local magazine. “They also understood that it was a bad script, and thus the chance of this film being realized simply went down the drain,” he said with amusement.

The person responsible for the script is John Peters, a 77-year-old film producer who went through the scripts for “A Star Is Born” (from 1976), “Man of Steel”, and more. Gaiman also said that he was honest all the way and right from the beginning he said that he didn’t like the script. “There was just nothing in it that I liked, I told them it was bad,” he concluded.

As you know, the plot of Sandman tells the story of the master of dreams, one of the seven immortals, who was captured by a sorcerer through a ritual intended to imprison his sister. A hundred years later he sets out on a journey to correct the kingdom and the mistakes he made.
