“Wrong” a shocking and pessimistic reflection of the less beautiful side of social networks

Kevin Sheppard’s new film follows a young girl who decides to pretend to be a survivor of terrorism in order to create a fan base and gather likes, comments and followers, and in doing so he succeeds in formulating a sharp and difficult critique of the modern era and the use of social networks as a powerful tool

“Wrong”, the new film by creator and director Kevin Shepard, which recently appeared on Disney Plus, touches on one of the most common and talked about topics in recent years – social networks. The plot follows Dani, a disgruntled graphic artist living in New York and experiencing estrangement from her wealthy parents. Dani is in love with Colin, and she is ready to do anything to win his attention.

But already at a fairly early stage of the film, Danny goes too far, and decides to fake a flight to Paris in order to participate in a prestigious writing retreat. The problem is that at exactly the same time Paris gets to receive several severe terrorist attacks, so it is forced, or chooses, depending on who you ask, to stage its intervention in a terrorist attack.

Dani’s new status as a terrorist survivor succeeds in a short time in boosting her Instagram account and earns her hundreds of thousands of new followers, likes, comments, and more. And if all this is not enough, she gets a promotion at work, her parents treat her again, and of course – she gets the attention she was most thirsty for, from Colleen.

Danny’s main dilemma is whether to continue the journey of impersonation, thereby strengthening her position as a coveted and admired network star, or to return to her gray and routine life. “Not OK” is not afraid to touch on the most sensitive issues of recent years, and formulate a particularly harsh criticism of the power of the media in the modern era.

It is a little difficult to identify with the heroine, but it is still possible to win a few such moments, and in fact, the tension between identification and non-identification largely holds the entire film. The cast is great, Kevin’s direction is as successful and clever as ever, and it is definitely worth watching.
