Tulsa police told the media that the children’s parents were sleeping upstairs in their home when shortly before midnight Thursday, the daughter woke them up and told them she had stabbed her little brother.

The frightened parents immediately called 911, and when the police, firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene they “performed CPR on the 9-year-old victim”.

The little boy was “rushed to the hospital and taken for surgery”, but the doctors had to pronounce him dead shortly after 2:30 in the morning. At the same time, the 12-year-old was taken into custody at the family center for juvenile justice, and is under the responsibility of the police child crisis unit, which is also responsible for the investigation.

The Tulsa Police Chief expressed his concern that this year has only just begun, and this is already the second homicide in the city. In a tweet, he wrote: “All murders are tragic, but the second murder of 2023 in Tulsa shows an absolute social problem. The question is, how does society treat a child who kills another child?”.

Meanwhile, the police did not reveal the motive for the murder and said that this is the role of the court.

“Obviously we’ve done some interviews, but interviews with a 12-year-old girl are very preliminary. Unfortunately, there’s no easy end to this or an easy path, it’s going to be a long and winding process that will hold everyone involved accountable,” said Capt. Richard Muelenberger.
