The serial killer from California: the police arrested the main suspect

Stockton police believe 43-year-old Wesley Brownlee was on his way to commit another murder, and after following up and identifying patterns, they arrested him in the middle of the night

California police said they caught the man suspected of being a serial killer while he was looking for his next victim.

43-year-old Wesley Brownlee was arrested on Saturday around 2:00 a.m. on suspicion of murdering six people and attempted murder in Oakland and Stockton over the past year. Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden said at a press conference. At the time of his arrest, it is suspected, Brownlee was on his way to “hunt” another victim.

McFadden explained to reporters that “the arrest happened in two parts. The first was information received from the community, and the second was old-style police work.”

“We coded him with his patterns and we determined that he was indeed on a mission to kill. He was out hunting,” said the chief, noting that Brownlee was arrested on the north side of Stockton, where most of the previous murders took place.

The forces caught the 43-year-old while armed, wearing black clothes and a mask around his neck. A search warrant was also executed at Brownlee’s home. “We are confident that we have been able to prevent another murder,” McFadden said.

An indictment has been filed against Brownlee, and he is expected to appear before a judge this Tuesday. San Joaquin District Attorney Tori Weber Salzer said: “Deputies have been here all night reviewing the evidence.”

So, she added: “I won’t say his name again, because he doesn’t deserve to have a name. He doesn’t deserve to be out there. So ‘the accused’ is what we’ll call him from now on.”

Mayor Kevin Lincoln said: “Stockton will be a place where people can live, raise a family and start a business. This is a city that each and every one of us calls home, and we will not tolerate any senseless acts of violence.”

As you may recall, six fatal shootings that happened at different times were linked to the same person, allegedly Brownlee, when he was seen on surveillance videos at several different crime scenes.

As part of the investigation, a hate motive was examined, as all but one of the murdered were Hispanic. Also, but one of the murdered men was not robbed, beaten or it seems that there was a relationship between them.

In addition to the six murders, ballistics tests linked a seventh shooting case in which a 46-year-old homeless woman was injured. According to police testimony, around 3:20 in the night she came out of her tent and encountered an armed man who shot at her several times. Luckily, she survived her injuries.
