At around 10 p.m. on Thursday, reports emerged that the moral leader and founder of the Sinaloa Party, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, had been shot.

After the events, he was transferred to the Cemsi Clinic in the Chapultepec neighborhood, where he was admitted to the emergency area, where he was reported in serious condition; however, minutes later his death was confirmed. Despite efforts to save his life through blood transfusions, his heart could not continue beating.

According to initial local reports, Cuén Ojeda was attacked in the town of La Presita, north of Culiacán.

PRI deputies condemn the murder

In light of the violent acts that took place on July 25, which resulted in the death of Melesio Cuén Ojeda, PRI deputies condemned the act and demanded that the authorities fulfill their duty.

“We condemn the infamous murder of federal deputy-elect Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda and demand that the authorities fulfill their duty, investigate and punish the guilty parties to the full extent of the law.

We extend our deepest condolences to family and friends, as well as to the university community and the people of Sinaloa, for this unfortunate loss.

This is a fact that hurts our democracy and in which we observe once again the inability of those in charge of Security, both federal and state, to protect citizens,” reads a statement by the PRI Parliamentary Group in the Chamber of Deputies, headed by our coordinator Rubén Moreira Valdez.

Something worth noting is that this Thursday Data Cívica reported 31 politicians murdered during the month of June, today adding to that list the former rector of the UAS, who would be part of the PRI bench in the LXVI Legislature, just the same day that the capture of “El Mayo” Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán, son of “El Chapo” was announced.
