Through a video on her X account, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezamareported that “Helene” It officially became a Category 1 hurricane, this information was corroborated minutes later by the National Water Commission (Conagua).
According to information from the National Meteorological Service (SMN)The center of this hurricane is located very close to the northern coast of Quintana Roo and its cloud bands would be causing very heavy to torrential rains, as well as strong gusts of wind and high waves on the Yucatan peninsula.

Let us remember that during the morning of this Wednesday, September 25, the governor of Quintana Roo activated the red alert in six municipalities of this entityin addition to the fact that eastern Yucatan is on orange alert due to the heavy rains recorded in recent hours.

At the moment, “Helene” is located 70 kilometers northeast of CancunQuintana Roo, and 135 kilometers north-northeast of Cozumel, Quintana Roo. It also sustains winds with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h and waves of 3 to 5 meters high and possible formation of waterspouts on the coasts of Quintana Roo and Yucatan (east) and gusts of winds of 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Campeche.

Conagua once again issued an invitation to the general population to take extreme precautions in the areas of the states mentioned due to rain, wind and waves (including maritime navigation) and to heed the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection Systemin each entity.
It is expected that in the next few hours, “Helene” strengthens to Category 2 hurricanebut now heading towards the coasts of Florida and thus, stopping causing damage to the Yucatan peninsula.
