Helicopter crash: Varun Singh transferred to Bangalore for specialist treatment Bipin Rawat

New Delhi: Group captain Varun Singh, who survived a helicopter crash in Coonoor, has been shifted to a hospital in Bangalore for specialist treatment. He was being treated at a military hospital in Wellington. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has told Parliament that Varun Singh’s health condition remains unchanged.

Thirteen people, including Joint Chiefs of Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife, were killed in a helicopter crash in Coonoor near Ooty yesterday. Varun is an Air Force officer who won the Shaurya Chakra award last August. The award was given for the safe landing of a Tejas fighter jet that crashed due to a technical glitch.

Varun accompanied General Bipin Rawat from Sulur to Wellington. Bipin Rawat left for Wellington to address students and teachers at the Defense Service Staff College. The officers were led by Captain Varun.

Deoria hails from Uttar Pradesh. Varun’s father KP Singh was an Army Colonel. He is a relative of Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh.
