Police arrest suspect Rouse after speeding at 144 km/h
As former US President Donald Trump faces a second assassination attempt, authorities reportedly staged a cinematic manhunt to capture the suspect.
On the 15th (local time), Daniel Rodriguez, a nearby driver who witnessed the suspect’s arrest immediately after the incident, relayed the urgent situation in detail to CNN. At the time of the incident, he was driving with his family on Interstate 95 toward Orlando.
What made the highway noisy as usual was a patrol car speeding down the road. “I saw several police officers speeding behind us,” he said. “A black Nissan car sped up and merged into the traffic.”
Then, an unusual sight unfolded in the sky. “A helicopter flew overhead, and more police officers began to appear,” Rodriguez said. “A state trooper pulled over to the side of the road and blocked the traffic,” he said.
At the time, police were chasing Ryan Wesley Rouse, a suspect in the attempted assassination of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. But Rodriguez, who was unaware of the circumstances, said he initially thought an accident had occurred nearby.
“It was crazy,” he said. “The Nissan was zooming right past us, and there were a bunch of police cars going at least 90 miles an hour.” He said he was stuck on the road for about two hours.
“There were at least 20 patrol cars following the Nissan,” Rodriguez said. “I waited patiently for the police to escort us out, and with my binoculars I saw several officers and agents aiming their guns at the suspect.”
On this day, at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, an incident occurred where a gunman, Rouse, was aiming at former President Trump while he was playing golf, but was caught by Secret Service agents. Rouse was later arrested while fleeing. Former President Trump was not seriously injured.
Former President Trump was playing holes 5 and 6 at the club at the time, while the Secret Service agent was reportedly looking ahead to the next hole. During this process, the agent found the gun barrel sticking out through the fence and opened fire first, which led to the rang out gunshots, and the local sheriff’s department also received a report of the incident.
Rouse was unarmed at the time of his arrest. However, at the golf club where he was discovered by Secret Service agents, an AK-47-type rifle, a scope, and a backpack were found. The FBI is currently working with international partners to investigate related social media.
