Portugal is on fire. Huge fires broke out yesterday (Sunday) across the country causing heavy damage and at least 29 injured. Today (Monday) local authorities reported that a state of emergency has been declared in the country that will last until at least Friday. Of these, more than 3,000 firefighters and rescue forces are working non-stop with the aim of extinguishing no less than 250 fire stations in the country.

Following the wildfires the EU has sent firefighting planes and various resources to help the Portuguese in their attempt to overcome the flames. Along with the EU, neighboring Spain, which has recently faced huge fires, rushed to send two firefighting planes to its neighbor in the Iberian Peninsula. The huge fires in Portugal are occurring due to the heavy heat prevailing in the country. Yesterday (Sunday) about 43 degrees Celsius was measured, an unusual heat wave in European terms.
