Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Ministry of Health announced that confirmed cases of hemorrhagic fever had risen to 119, including 18 deaths.

The ministry spokesman, Saif Al-Badr, said that the Dhi Qar governorate recorded the highest number of cases, with 35 injuries, then Basra 18, Muthanna 10, Najaf Al-Ashraf and Maysan, each with 8 injuries, then Baghdad / Al-Rusafa 6 injuries, and 5 injuries each in Wasit, Babel, Salahuddin and Baghdad. Karkh, Diyala and Diwaniyah 4 in each governorate, in Holy Karbala 3 injuries, Anbar two injuries, and Erbil one injury.

He added: As for the deaths, Dhi Qar came first with 6 cases, then Muthanna 3, and one death each in Basra, Najaf, Diyala, Diwaniyah, Baghdad / Rusafa, Wasit, Babel, Erbil and Karbala.

Hemorrhagic fever is a viral disease transmitted through livestock to humans, and then transmitted through infection from one person to another, and the death rate for those infected with it is about 40 percent, according to the World Health Organization.

Academic researcher Sam Youssef believes that this virus is a severe disease that affects humans, causing acute viral hemorrhagic fever.

The Dean of the College of Medicine in Erbil, Dashti Bustani, said that hemorrhagic fever is a viral infection spread in the world, adding that it increases in the fall and spring and is transmitted to humans during slaughter.

Activist Muhammad Salam believes that the hemorrhagic fever epidemic is killing the people of the governorate without the Ministry of Health moving any residents, and we do not find any reaction from the government regarding this epidemic.

The veterinarian, Qasim Muhammad, talks about farmers’ failure to adhere to the necessary preventive measures, such as periodic disinfection of farms, tools, and equipment, and separating infected poultry from healthy ones.

Muhammad reveals that hemorrhagic fever can be transmitted through transporting infected poultry, infected animals, or contaminated eggs, as well as the poor quality of feed, as this can affect the health of poultry, and make them more susceptible to diseases, including hemorrhagic fever. Poultry are not vaccinated in Iraq on a regular basis, which makes them more vulnerable to infection.

Cases of hemorrhagic fever were recorded in Iraq for the first time in the seventies of the last century, and no other case has been recorded since that time, but it began to spread late last year, especially in southern Iraq, and from there to the central and northern governorates by transporting animals.

Among the symptoms of the disease is a high temperature in the infected person, general weakness, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting, and the appearance of hemorrhagic spots under the skin, places where needles are blue, and in the mouth and nose after five days of illness.

As for the general rate, the incubation of the disease ranges from one day to 14 days, and among the most important preventive measures is spraying homes with insecticides, sterilizing them, monitoring suspicious cases and referring them for early examination as soon as possible.

Hemorrhagic fever is transmitted to humans from infected animals and can be fatal in some cases. The World Health Organization and Iraqi health authorities have announced an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever in Iraq after a number of deaths and infections were recorded.
