Former Ivorian President Henri Konan Bedie died in the early hours of this Wednesday at the age of 89 in a hospital in Abidjan, the most populous city in the Ivory Coast.
Bedie served as the second president of the Ivory Coast after independence from France in 1960, according to the France 24 channel.
The late political leader ruled from 1993 to 1999, when he was overthrown in a military coup.
As reported by France 24, the causes of death have not yet been revealed.
Despite being removed from power, Bedie remained politically active until just a few years ago. According to what the French chain assures, at the age of 86 he lost the 2020 elections against his former political rival, President Alassane Ouattara.
