The Jaur watershed in Hérault has been placed in “crisis” drought by the region, which also maintains this level for the other four regions in the west of this department.

“The situation of waterways and alluvial aquifers is becoming problematic in some sectors,” the province said, justifying its decision by “short-term climate forecasts and in line with the decisions of neighboring sectors.”

The crisis level is therefore applied to the waters of Orb aval, Aude aval Berre-Rieu, Argent Double Ognon and Cesse.

Samples are not prohibited

The region has also placed the regions of the Canal du Midi and the Orb up, in the north of the department, on “high alert”.

For the rest of the Hérault, the region explains that “recent rain events have made it possible to maintain different water levels, especially in the east of the department; A groundwater level continues to stand still.”

The “crisis” level prohibits water withdrawals for agriculture (total or partial), for various domestic uses and for public spaces.

The “high alert” level has led to restrictions on watering, filling and draining swimming pools, washing vehicles and irrigating crops.
