TRENTO. Within the first months of next year, in the immediate vicinity of the Trento prison, “Spini Pizza” will open its doors. The activity will involve a group of prisoners who are training in the preparation of leavening products. The initiative aims to encourage the social and work reintegration of people serving their sentences inside the prison. The Autonomous Province of Trento is the operational coordinator and partner of the project, which involves the creation of a wooden structure approximately 300 square meters wide.
The initiative is promoted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trento, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trento, the Penitentiary Administration and the Surveillance Court. The Trento Criminal Chamber and the Trento Bar Associations also participate. “Spini Pizza” will therefore offer a service open to citizens with high social value.
“The Provincial Administration immediately joined this initiative wanted by the prosecutor Sandro Raimondi and which sees us committed both on the project level, which is already underway, and from the financial point of view” were the words of the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti spoke at the presentation press conference at the Palace of Justice. “The suppression of crimes, thanks to the daily commitment of the police, is fundamental. With this project, which is part of a path already activated in prison, we intend to promote the rehabilitation of those who wish to undertake a path to work and recovery”.
The project aims to enhance work opportunities for detained people, enhancing the skills acquired through professional training courses carried out within the prison. The courses, held by the Hotel Professional Training Institute of Levico Terme, concern catering, with a particular focus on the preparation of pizzas. “It is one of the few projects in Italy, which involves local authorities, the Province and the Municipality. The general director of the Autonomous Province of Trento has drawn up a feasibility study that will allow us to open the structure in the spring. In this way we intend to offer a chance for redemption to those who have made mistakes and who will be helped to reintegrate into society” were the words of prosecutor Raimondi. Speaking on the occasion of the official presentation were – among others – the Government Commissioner Giuseppe Petronzi, the mayor of Trento Franco Ianeselli, the president of the Surveillance Court Lorenza Omarchi, the regional superintendent of the Penitentiary Administration Rosella Santoro with the prison director Annerita Nuzzaci, the general director of the Province Raffaele De Col and the president of the Trento Bar Association Antonio Angelini. The head of the Penitentiary Administration Department Giovanni Russo also expressed his appreciation.
