“Yesterday I worked until half past 9, it will have to be finished earlier today. And in the evening, sports are waiting for me,” said Sandra as the working day drew to a close.
Leaving a woman’s bakery empty-handed was probably hardly possible. Here you can find the favorite of the locals: morelage roll with raspberries, eclairs, cookies and many other delicacies. There is also a choice for those who prefer a more sophisticated taste.
Macarons with blue cheese and walnuts. For a gourmet taste, not everyone will like it. But whoever likes, likes,” the baker introduced the unusual duet of flavors.
The woman smiles that she doesn’t eat the desserts she makes herself, because the assortment here is constantly changing.
He was constantly homesick
The fact that Sandra will be a baker seems to have been coded in the woman’s genes.
“Grandmothers were excellent bakers, they used to make cakes, bake sedges, šakotis – whenever it was a holiday, even the biggest šakotis would stand. Another grandmother baked waffles and was a mushroom specialist. It just had to happen that I became a baker,” said the woman.
Admittedly, those with a sweet tooth for Sandra’s first baked goods in Kaišiadori had to wait a bit. At first, the parents were opposed to such a decision of the daughter, later the woman had to taste the bread of emigrants as well. For six years, she and her husband worked in Great Britain, and lived in the capital, London, for several years.
“I was pulled home like a beast. I didn’t have anything to breathe in the big city – for me there is cement and asphalt, and I grew up near forests, nature attracts me.
Back here, I was walking down the street, singing, and the sun was shining and rainbows were appearing. This is a good place to raise children. And it’s good for business if you come up with something you like and people need it,” said the woman.
After the children were born, there was time for introspection, and then Sandra took up kitchen tricks. It’s true, they didn’t have many customers at that time, so they treated their relatives with delicious desserts.
“Finally, both my children and the cakes grew until I could no longer fit in the house – I had to move indoors,” said the woman about the decision to open a bakery.
Teaches how to bake a centipede
Sandra is happy that there is no shortage of orders from locals. Communication with people is no less important for a woman.
“When I was working from home, I really missed people. And here – he comes, we talk, he brings me news, I don’t even ask, but he tells me. I just don’t like washing dishes,” the woman smiled.
And to visit the bakery in Kaišiadorys, locals are attracted not only by the delicacies found here, but also by the opportunity to make them themselves. Not long ago, the baker came up with the idea of conducting educations, during which those who registered could get to know the behind-the-scenes of the kitchen themselves. One of the activities is the education of cooking centipedes.
“It takes about 3-4 hours, it’s something to do, but the women are willing to learn. We bake here and have a good time.
There were also men who joked and asked why it was only for women. Please, let them come,” Sandra invited the male representatives to the kitchen.
Has a secret fear
While talking about her beloved work, the woman also reveals one of her weaknesses. For this reason, Sandra is a rare guest at fairs held in various Lithuanian cities.
“You need courage to drive in Vilnius or Kaunas at the Jonava Ring. In Kaišiadori, I’m Schumacher, and there I’m afraid, that’s why I don’t go,” the woman joked.
Still, there are enough challenges for bakers in Kaišiadorys. As Sandra, who works alone in the bakery, says, the profession of a baker is not one of the easiest.
“Whoever pays for this job works for himself. Because work is hard, and who wants to do such hard work?
It happens that girls start baking and quit. You have to love this kind of work. Food must be prepared with love, otherwise it will be bitter”, the woman concluded the conversation.
