Upon receiving this note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out to the Representation of the sub-regional organization that following the sanctions enacted by the Conference of Heads of State and Government on July 30, 2023, the land and air borders of Niger with the Member States, are closed. Therefore, indicates the ministry in its press release, that the organization of such a mission by special flight, requires a particular examination of the Nigerien authorities, including a special exemption. What is not invoked in this note from the Resident Representation. On the other hand, security reasons in this atmosphere of “threat of aggression against Niger” are also mentioned. “The current context of anger and revolt of the populations following the sanctions imposed by ECOWAS, does not allow to welcome the said delegation in the serenity and security required”, can we also read in the press release.
