jpnn.comJAKARTA – Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PB PMII) Hasnu Ibrahim hopes that the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) will not become a political tool in the Covid-19 social assistance corruption case.

It is known that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has examined a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP faction, Herman Hery as a witness in the corruption case of the president’s social assistance (bansos) for handling COVID-19 in the Jabodetabek area at the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) in 2020.

“This is an old case which then seems to be dragged into practical political interests to satisfy the tastes of certain people, rather than standing on legal justice and legal certainty,” said Hasnu in his statement, Tuesday (6/8).

He explained that the KPK has recently been considered to have poor performance in the eyes of the public. This is because the anti-corruption agency has become a political tool to punish public officials who are at odds with the political interests of powerful groups.

“The KPK’s performance is increasingly declining, its performance index is not visible. This is exacerbated by the destruction of integrity standards, professionalism, then legal culture and legal ethics within the KPK institution itself,” he continued.

Hasnu said the public must closely monitor the efforts to eradicate corruption carried out by the Corruption Eradication Committee.

He said this needed to be done so that the Corruption Eradication Committee would not work to satisfy the interests or tastes of certain people.

“We encourage that in the future the KPK must be reorganized starting from its commissioner leadership, institutional restoration and redesigning the institutional culture and ethics, so that the KPK is no longer a political tool for certain groups,” explained Hasnu, who is also a Candidate for General Chairperson of PB PMII for the 2024-2027 period.(mcr8/jpnn)
