Pedro Santos, an employee at a restaurant in Boca do Inferno, did not hesitate to jump into the sea to save a woman, who was unconscious and floating in the water. The moment of the rescue was captured on video.

A 26-year-old American woman was rescued from the sea by locals on Thursday afternoon after falling from a cliff in the Boca do Inferno area of Cascais.
The accident reportedly occurred during a hike. The woman fell into the sea and became unconscious, prompting several nearby locals to raise the alarm. Without hesitation, employees of the restaurant Mar do Inferno sprang into action.
Pedro Santos, one of the staff members, jumped into the sea. In footage shared on social media by the restaurant’s page, you can see the woman—still unconscious—being held by the local, clearly struggling to stay afloat.
Even so, the man managed to bring the woman to a rocky area, where he held on until—with the help of ropes and other locals—it was possible to pull both of them out of the water.
“Upon seeing someone call for help after someone had fallen into the sea, they were the first to dive into the water; others fetched ropes and saved the person before the rescue boat arrived,” reads a post from the restaurant’s Instagram page.
Shortly after, members of the Cascais Maritime Police, crew from the Cascais Lifeboat Station, as well as members of the Cascais Volunteer Firefighters and the INEM arrived at the scene.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that the victim had been pulled from the water by locals who were nearby to a rocky area, from where she was rescued by members of the local Maritime Police Command and crew from the Lifeboat Station in collaboration with firefighters,” states the statement from the Maritime Authority.
The young woman was revived on-site and subsequently transported by INEM to the hospital.
One of the heroes of this story, Pedro Santos, suffered some abrasions and received treatment.
