Gray suit, white shirt, white shoes, but no rose-colored glasses on the nose – Hertha manager Fredi Bobic presented himself precisely and openly in the “one-two”.
BILD analyzes his most important statements.
Bobic: “There are egoisms. It’s getting harder now. If you don’t go all the way, you’ve got a problem.”
He means: From now on, people will take a closer look at who only thinks of themselves and their future instead of giving everything for the club. Bobic doesn’t care about the names and achievements of the players. All he cares about is Hertha, about survival. He questions everything and everyone. It is possible that players will be sorted out in a timely manner.
Bobic: “The coach reaches the team, the belief in him is great.”
He means: There will be no further change of coach this season for the time being. Tayfun Korkut is on the sidelines as long as the team tries to keep up his handicap
implement. For this, Bobic has his back and supports him wherever he can. Korkut will not be held responsible for individual mistakes made by players.
Bobic: “It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had.”
He means: Bobic was always with traditional clubs, first in Stuttgart, then in Frankfurt, now in Berlin. There was a lot of turbulence everywhere, but at Hertha it’s still a long way off
more difficult. A squad that is far too large, horrendous salaries, unrest behind the scenes, power struggles in the committees and a demanding behavior that does not do the club justice. Bobic has to put out several fires.
Bobic: “There were players who wanted to play the Champions League straight away.”
He means: Attacker Matheus Cunha (22) is a gifted footballer, but also a total egoist. Instead of tearing his butt off for Hertha, he wanted to play the Champions League immediately. Cunha got the release from Bobic and could go to Atletico for 35 million euros.
Bobic: “It is our duty of care that our squad planners plan both scenarios.”
He means: The documents for the next season must be submitted to the DFL at the end of March. Due to the danger of relegation, Hertha has to plan for the 1st and 2nd league. The squad planners, who are already analyzing the performance of the 10 loan players and checking who is still possible for the future, know that too. And who needs to be sold. The fact is: relegation is a scenario that everyone deals with.
Bobic: “The timing was brutal. I clear things up directly with Lars Windhorst. He doesn’t score any goals and it doesn’t affect the team at first.”
He means: Investor Lars Windhorst, who has invested 375 million euros in the club, recently spoke of “maintaining power and clinging” at Hertha. Bobic thinks that this public criticism came at the wrong time and has caused additional unrest in the club. If Hertha is saved, Bobic will seek talks with Windhorst.
