Buraida: The Transport General Authority (TGA) has revealed that 349 taxi drivers have been found to have violated the law requiring uniforms to be worn by taxi drivers in the country within two weeks. The authority informed that they will be fined for violating the law.
The Transport Authority issued an order on 12th of this month making uniform mandatory for taxi drivers in the country. Officials have made uniform mandatory for public taxi drivers. Besides airport taxi, family taxi and drivers of other passenger vehicles, private taxi drivers must also wear the prescribed uniform. After the announcement, the authority had stepped up checks on public taxis to ensure that drivers wear uniforms.
More than 6,000 inspections conducted across the country have found violations. Locals can wear their national dress ‘thob’ on taxi drivers.
However, they must wear an identity card. Foreign drivers must wear a long-sleeved gray shirt, black pants and a belt. A jacket or coat can be worn over the shirt if needed.
The authority has repeatedly asked all authorized taxi companies to comply with the conditions imposed to enhance the quality of taxi services. The authority appealed to the public to file a complaint through the official website or to the unified number 19929 if they are aware of any violation of the law.
