There was an earthquake in Hesse during the night. Experts report a strength of 3.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was therefore north of the Hahn district of Pfungstadt. Residents report on their experiences on social networks.

In Hesse suffered an earthquake during the night, waking some residents from their sleep. As the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology reported on Sunday, the earthquake occurred at 2:43 a.m. in the region Pfungstadt (Darmstadt-Dieburg). The tremors reached a value of 3.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was north of the Pfungstadt district of Hahn. As the earthquake news portal reports, it is said to be the strongest earthquake in Hesse in nine years.

Earthquake in Hesse: residents share their experiences on Facebook

Residents shared their experiences on social networks, reporting wobbling beds, creaking cupboards and dull banging noises. “Was that just an earthquake?” Asked a user in a Pfungstätter Facebook group. “But then it was pretty strong. “I felt that in Darmstadt too,” reacts another. Another comments: “The house gave a short shake, the cupboard ‘creaked’ and there was a dull ‘thump’ “. A resident also reported a blow in another Facebook group: “Yes, here in Bickenbach a dull thud was heard and it shook everything. It woke us up.” Another wrote: “The whole house vibrated. Glasses, cabinets, windows, etc. shook for several seconds.”

As the “Hessenschau” reports, a resident told the “Hessischer Rundfunk” in the morning that her bed was noticeably wobbly. According to the official Richter scale, earthquakes of this magnitude can often be felt, but “very rarely cause damage”.

Unlike in Morocco, where the earth shook on Saturday night. So far, more than 2,000 dead have been recovered from the rubble in the country’s worst earthquake. Hundreds are still missing.
