One of the most attractive activities is to invite citizens to make their telescopes available to the public. It is in this way that in 2011 the Mexico Challenge was organized, an event in which 2,753 telescopes were recorded observing the moon at the same time.

In this regard, the municipal president of Santiago Tulantepec de Lugo Guerrero, Ma. Yanet Fernández Fernández, highlighted the opportunity that having an event of this magnitude represents for the region:

“The Night of the Stars positions the region on the map, providing the local community with direct access to astronomical knowledge in a space so symbolic that in 1968 it allowed the Olympic Games to be broadcast to the entire world.”

Meanwhile, Alejandro Franco Segura, general coordinator of the District of Education, Health, Science, Technology and Innovation (DESCTI), highlighted the commitment of the governor of Hidalgo, Julio Menchaca Salazar, to make these areas of knowledge have a perspective of social impact .

It should be noted that this year the event is dedicated to celebrating the life and work of Marie Curie who, ninety years after her death, was the first person, and the only woman to this day, to win two Nobel Prizes, one in Physics. and one from Chemistry.
